Angkor Wat is enormous, the largest religious site in the world (second one is in Guatemala) . 400 square kilometres (Lonely Planet indicates 1000sqkm, so go figure) of the “hydraulic city” (due to its advanced hydraulic systems) where one million people lived. This is what you are asked to visit in 2 or 3 days of stay, so lower your expectations of risk thermoplexia and an indefinite stay in Cambodia…
You have to pay to get in. Tickets are sold for one or three days, and get caught without a ticket in a temple will set you back just 100 USD. You would be crazy to venture in the place on foot, and I would not dare visiting on a bicycle either in the warm season, although the place is as flat as a pancake. You can hire a tuk-tuk, a car, or even an elephant if you ARE a cruel person… You can overfly in a hot air balloon, a helicopter, squad it or zipline it treetop-wise as I did. L’embaras du choix! A wise advice would be to make a very early start, or stay late (until they you throw you out actually, around 18.00) and schedule your visit according to the best light for your photos, if you are a photo freak (…)
I am pretty sure all the rest and more is in your guide, so get your shoes, water, a hat and sun lotion and set off!
